Tresana

Tresana is a municipality with 2071 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Massa -Carrara in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality extends over some 44 km ². It is located approximately 145 km north- west of Florence, about 30 km northwest of Massa and 25 km north- west of Carrara.

The districts include Barbarasco ( main town, lying on the Magra ), Bocco, Bola, Bottria, Camposopra, Canala, Careggia, Castello, Catizzola, Cavecchia, Ceppino, Cerco, Corneda, Debirotti, Folla, Fontanedo, Giovagallo, Groppo, Lorenzana, Meredo, Novegigola, Ortigaro, Penolo (lying on the eponymous river ), Popetto, Quercia, Ricco, Serra Piana, Tassanarla e Nave, Tavella, Tresana ( gives the community the name ), Vigonzla, Villa Rosticciola and Villecchia.

The neighboring municipalities are Bolano ( SP), Calice al Cornoviglio ( SP), Licciana Nardi, Mulazzo, Podenzana and Villafranca in Lunigiana.

History

The district Tresana arose from a fortress of the Lombards. 1164 Frederick I of these the Malaspina was assumed. After the Spanish occupation in 1652, the area was made ​​in 1575 under the protectorate of Tuscany. Then the Corsini dominated the municipality until the occupation of Napoleon.
