Ulf Dahlén

Ulf R. Dahlén ( born January 21, 1967 in Östersund ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and current coach. During his career, the graduate winger for the New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars played, Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League and IF Björklöven and HV 71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elitserien. Between May 2011 and December 2013 he was head coach of HV71 from the Elitserien.

Career

Dahlén first played in the second Swedish league before he was pulled in the NHL Entry Draft in 1985 in the first round in seventh place of the New York Rangers. However, he remained for two more years in Sweden, playing for IF Björklöven in the Elitserien.

In the summer of 1985, the Swede moved to North America to the Rangers, who brought him to two appearances in the farm team in the NHL. There he played until March 1990 before he was transferred to Mike Gartner to the Minnesota North Stars. Dahlén played four years with the North Stars and was in season 1992/93, as measured by its yield point, his best year in the NHL with 74 points. After the season, he moved with the team from Minnesota to Dallas and played from then on for the Dallas Stars, who submitted him in March 1994 in exchange for Doug Zmolek and Mike Lalor to San Jose. For the Sharks, the Swede had often struggled with injury, reducing its performance varied greatly. This resulted in the end of January 1997 on the next swap deal in which the Swede was involved. San Jose gave him, along with two other players to the Chicago Blackhawks from the charges in return Ed Belfour. In Chicago, the winger played only half a year until the end of season 1996 / 97th Then he returned to his native Sweden.

Dahlén signed at the beginning of the season 1997/98, a two-year contract with HV 71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elitserien. At the end of the first game the year he was awarded the Guldpucken for the best player in the league.

After the end of his two- year commitment in Sweden Dahlén returned to the NHL. For the Washington Capitals, he played three seasons and showed similarly strong performance as the early 1990s when the North Stars. For his final NHL season, he returned to the Dallas Stars back, where he ended his career.

After end of his career he spent two years as assistant coach of the Swedish national team. In 2005 he returned to the organization of the Dallas Stars back and served as a scout for the observation of players in European countries. From the season 2006/ 07 he worked in Dallas as an assistant coach Dave Tippett of. After two years he left the Stars to become head coach at Frölunda HC. In his first season he led them to third place in the regular season before the team failed in the playoff semi-finals to HV71. After the team had not gone in the next season on the first round, Dahlén was relieved of his duties in April 2010. For the 2011/12 season he was bound by the HV71 as head coach.

Internationally

Dahlén represented his native Sweden at numerous international tournaments. He played in the Canada Cup 1991, World Cup of Hockey in 1996, the World Championships in 1993, 1998, 2002 and ran at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano and Salt Lake City
