United States Ambassador to the United Nations

The Permanent Representative of the United States at the United Nations (English Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations) represents the interests of the United States in the UN Security Council and during the plenary sessions of the UN General Assembly. This is simply not the case when a higher-ranking political representatives of the United States is present at the relevant meetings.

The nomination of the respective incumbent is responsible for the U.S. president; then the appointment by the Senate of the United States must be confirmed. Under President Bill Clinton, the position had cabinet rank; after this had not been the case under George W. Bush, the 2009 ambassador appointed by Barack Obama Susan E. Rice was a member of his cabinet again; the same applies to their reigning successor Samantha Power.
