The University of Hertfordshire is a modern university in and around Hatfield, Hertfordshire County, United Kingdom. At the University study of more than 20,000 students.

History

The de Havilland company gave land in Hatfield in 1951 at the County Administration of Hertfordshire, the requirement for use for educational purposes. The Council built there the " Hatfield Technical College " where aerospace engineers were trained for the then dominant place in the aviation industry. In 1967 it became a polytechnic university. Under the Further and Higher Education Act their full university status was awarded in 1992 and released into the self-administration.

It is unusual that the university their own bus company, UnoBus operates.

Faculties

Hertfordshire was described in an article by The Independent as the flagship of the former polytechnics in 2002. As a polytechnic college, she was strongly in aerospace engineering and computer science. Lately also strengths in other areas such as pharmaceuticals are formed. The entry requirements have recently risen sharply.

Campus

The main part of the university remains in the original buildings of the Technical University in Hatfield, although since the beginning of many new buildings were added. Noteworthy is especially the new " Learning Resources Centre ," a combination of library and computer center, one of the largest of its kind in the UK. Computer science, engineering and the natural sciences are located here as well as the student village (for international students are guaranteed accommodation on campus in the first year ).

Nearby is the modern de Havilland Campus, where economic sciences and the humanities and another library are housed. The lawyers are 2011 drawn from St Albans to the de Havilland campus in Hatfield. A small branch office houses the telescope and the University Biological Field Station.

Specific research priorities of the University are located on computer science, history, engineering and philosophy.
