The University of Wales, Newport (English ) or Prifysgol Cymru, Casnewydd (Welsh ) is an institute of the University of Wales / Cymru Prifysgol.

For over 80 years, Newport offers university education. The roots of the Institute go back even further than the first Mechanical Institute of the city was opened in 1841. The current facility was as " Gwent College promotes higher education," as a merger of various institutions in 1975, forth. The college was the University of Wales connected 1996. Very quickly, the college was known as University of Wales College, Newport, and officially renamed later in this name.
