Vassilis Spanoulis
Vasilios Spanoulis (Greek Βασίλης Σπανούλης, born August 7, 1982 in Larissa, Greece) is a Greek professional basketball player. The combo guard is currently in the squad Olympiakos Piraeus.
Career
Vasilios Spanoulis began his career in 1994 in his hometown basketball club Larissa where he worked for seven years for the GS resident Larisa played. Only in the 1998-1999 season he played for city rivals Keravnos Larisa. In 2001, the point guard in the Greek professional league Marousi Athens. In the summer of 2005, the Greek international joined the Greek giants Panathinaikos, where he worked in his first season in the national championship and the cup was able to win. With Panathinaikos Spanoulis also debuted for the first time in the ULEB Euro League and moved there the attention of the Houston Rockets on themselves, their rights to the players participated in 2006 claim and committed him. Spanoulis, who was drafted at # 50 out of Houston in 2004, received a three -year contract for a total of six million euros.
After his rookie season (2006/ 07), however, was disappointing, Spanoulis played in only 31 games and recorded only 2.7 points and 0.9 assists per game, he asked his club to a premature termination of the contract. No longer wished to play for his desire longer for the Rockets and the NBA, was at Spanoulis family reasons. On 12 July 2007 Spanoulis was issued by the Rockets (along with a second-round draft pick in 2009 ) to the San Antonio Spurs. In return, Houston was awarded Jackie Butler and the draft rights to Luis Scola. On August 19, 2007 Spanoulis announced that he will return in the Greek League Panathinaikos Athens, where he was awarded a three -year contract for a total of five million euros.
National
Spanoulis played in the past for almost all the Greek junior national teams and won a number of awards with them. His debut with the men's national team was Spanoulis on 3 September 2001 in a match against the national team of Serbia. In the game that won Greece with 79-67, Spanoulis scored 10 points. Among his greatest successes include winning the European Championship in 2005. During the Basketball World Championship 2006 Spanoulis reached with Greece won the final and there the silver medal. At the European Championships 2009, he won the third place, the third medal of his career.
