Ve (Arabic letter)

Ve, in Jawi Pa, is an Arabic letter that is used in several advanced Arabic alphabets, including Kurdish Sorani - as well as the Jawi alphabet of the Malay language. The letter is derived from the Arabic letters Fa ( ف ) by the addition of two further points.

Its phonetic value in Arabic and Kurdish is a voiced labiodental fricative ( IPA: [v ] ). Although the letter and its phonetic value does not occur in Arabic alphabet reason, it is sometimes used in Arabic to transcribe foreign language proper names. In the Jawischrift the Ve notwithstanding, represents a voiceless bilabial plosive ( IPA: [ p] ).
