Velesmes-Essarts
Velesmes - Dessessart is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.
Geography
Velesmes - Dessessart is located at 275 m, about 12 km west-southwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and in the north Ognon.
The area of 2.92 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the north Doubstals. Passing the part with arable and meadow land, partly with forest landscape shows only slight differences in relief. A short creek drains the area to the southwest along the Doubs. The northern boundary runs along the main road N73, combines the Besançon with Dole. At 295 m is reached on a hill southwest of the village on the edge of the Bois d' Ambre is the highest elevation of Velesmes - Dessessart.
To Velesmes - Dessessart the hamlet of Les Essarts -Martin (260 m ) west part of the village. Neighboring communities of Velesmes - Dessessart are Dannemarie -sur- Crète in the north, Grand Fontaine in the east, the south and Torpes Routelle and Saint -Vit to the west.
History
The first written mention of Velesmes dates from 1289 (under the name of Vilema ); of 1385 Velimme is preserved. In the Middle Ages Velesmes belonged first to rule Thoraise and after their goods division to rule Torpes. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Velesmes was officially renamed in 1922 in Velesmes - Dessessart.
