Velloreille -lès- Choye is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Velloreille -lès- Choye situated at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, 12 km east-southeast of Gray and about 28 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the basin of the Saone River, northwest of the heights of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​4.13 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The mostly flat area that is on average 230 m is composed of sediments derived from the Tertiary and Cretaceous. Drained the area for Colombine, a left tributary of the Morte. The fertile soils are mainly agricultural. To the west of the municipality floor extends into the grove of the Bois de Grilley and into the lowlands of Tenise. History

In the Middle Ages Velloreille belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the lords of Saint- Loup. In the 16th century Velloreille temporarily formed an autonomous government. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today is Velloreille -lès- Choye Member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy.

Attractions

The village church of Velloreille -lès- Choye was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. It houses a Madonna statue from the 18th century and other statues from the 17th century.

Population

With 86 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Velloreille -lès- Choye of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 162 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth have been recorded since the early 1990s again.
