Victor Ikpeba

Victor Nosa Ikpeba ( born June 12, 1973 in Benin City ) is a former Nigerian football player.

Career

After his youth when ACB Lagos, he moved to Belgian club FC Liege, where he could play along with his compatriot Sunday Oliseh. In 1993, the striker was voted best African footballer of the Belgian League and subsequently committed by the AS Monaco. There he experienced under Arsène Wenger in the time to the best years of his career, including winning the French championship in 1997, to which he was able to contribute 13 goals, and the choice to African Footballer of the Year in the same year. 1999 undertook Borussia Dortmund striker for a fee of € 6 million. Almost had him Reggina Calcio, but his wife Veronica to have him locked on the date of contract signature in the house because it is so well-liked her in Monaco. After his wife left him three children, died of breast cancer in May 2000, he never found back to his old form. In 2002 he moved back to Africa for Libyan club Al - Ittihad.Aufgrund financial dissonances left Ikpeba 2003 the club early, so he was without a club for half a year. 2004 signed the Nigerian half -year contract with Sporting Charleroi, where Robert Waseige who had discovered him in 1989, was coach. 2005 ended Ikpeba after he briefly played in Doha in Al Sadd, his career.

He played a total of 30 caps for the Nigerian national football team, and took, among others, at the Football World Cup 1994 in part in the United States. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta he won the gold medal with the Nigerian selection. He also took part in a four- time African Cup of Nations, where he could get 1994 gold. In 2000, he was about to repeat this triumph, would not he and Nwankwo Kanu fired their penalty in the final against Cameroon.
