Villerouge-Termenès

Ville -Termenès ( Occitan: Vilaroja de Termenes ) is a small town in the south of France with 150 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). It is situated in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region.

Location

Surrounded by forests Place Ville -Termenès lies at an altitude of about 310 meters above sea level. inst on the eastern edge of the Corbières about 44 km ( driving distance ) southwest of Narbonne and 50 km south-east of Carcassonne. Up to the south-west to Canton Mouthoumet capital is 13 kilometers. The small town of Termez with its imposing castle ruins located about 13 kilometers to the west.

Economy

Main source of income of the village is the wine; the vineyards of Ville -Termenès lie within the protected designation of origin Corbières. Since the 1970s and 1980s, a little tourism ( gîtes ) is added as a source of income. Sheep, the former main source of income is hardly operated. In contrast, the raising and breeding of goats for the production of soft cheese Pélardon still plays a certain role.

Demographics

History

Whether a small settlement at this place existed before the construction of the castle, or whether this was only developed later, is unknown. Since the beginning of the 12th century belonged to the castle and village of Ville Rouge the archbishopric of Narbonne. While also raised the counts of Termez ( Termes de seigneur ) repeated claims of ownership, however, were judged by the Pope always refused. The castle was seat of the bailiff and a secondary residence of the Archbishop. In 1321 there was the last ' perfect ' the Katharersekte, Wilhelm Bélibaste, burned at the stake. With the French Revolution fell all traditional property rights of the nobility and the Church. Until the 1980s, some poorer families lived within the walls of the castle, which was after the acquisition of the castle thoroughly restored by the municipality in the 1990s.

In 1962, the City Ville Rouge was renamed Ville -Termenès.

Castle Ville -Termenès was established by the Archdiocese of Narbonne in the 12th century and was the seat of one of their eleven Baillie.

  • The Église Saint- Étienne is on the south side of the creek and Lou is the parish church of the village; it dates from the 13th/14th century. Century. The interior is - as with most churches in southwest France usual - nave; also it has no apse. The choir just end houses a remarkable altarpiece from the 16th century with scenes from the Passion of St. Stephen. The church is recognized as a monument historique since 1913.
  • A single-arched medieval bridge over the brook Lou, who, however, can swell after heavy or prolonged rain to a torrential waters.

  • From another cross on the church square, only the base of the 14th century has been preserved; he also is recognized as a monument historique since 1926.
  • A privately- owned residential building from the late 18th century is registered because of its facade jewelry since 1952 as a monument historique.

Personalities

  • Wilhelm Bélibaste (around 1280-1321 ) (French Guillaume, occ. Guilhem ) was the last ' Perfect ' ( parfait ) of the Cathars.
