Virginia International Raceway

The Virginia International Raceway ( VIR short ) is a race course in Alton, near Danville, Virginia. It is located less than 800 meters from the border with North Carolina.

Events

On the VIR events for amateurs as well as professional racing events on automobiles and motorcycles will take place primarily. Even for race training, club days and private test, the course can be rented. Among the highlights of today's annual count the Grand-Am Series and the AMA Superbike Championship.

History

Was opened today 3.27 miles long course in August 1957. Course can be used in three other shorter versions. After its opening, the majority found the SCCA events, the American sports car clubs instead. Thus began already in their debut season in 1966, initiated by the SCCA and quite popular Trans-Am Series at the VIR.

In addition, the 2012 American Le Mans Series ( ALMS short ) first start on the VIR.
