Vladimer Gegeshidze

Wladimir Gegeschidse (Georgian ვლადიმერ გეგეშიძე; born 10 February 1987 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian wrestler. He became in 2013 Vice European Champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in the middleweight division.

Career

Wladimir Gegeschidse began in 1997 as a teenager with the rings. He focuses on the Greco- Roman style. As a member of a wrestling club in Tbilisi he is coached since 1997 by Otari Tateschwili. Rings is currently also his profession.

His career started very successfully, for he was in 2002 in Odessa in his first start in an international championship in the weight category up to 85 kg equal to junior vice-European champion ( age group Cadets ). 2003 in Rostov won the Junior European Champion title ( Cadets ) before Anzor Totrow, Russia, and in 2004 in Albena the Junior European Championship title against Todor Mihow, Bulgaria. At the Junior World Championships 2005 in Vilnius, however, he could no longer continue our success, because after beating Zoltan Fodor, Hungary he lost to Cenk Ildem, Turkey, with which he retired and finished only 12th place.

From 2006 he had to go with the seniors at the start. It took a long time until he had fought his way at this in Georgia in the national top class. Only in the year 2010, he was employed at an international championship, the World Championships in Moscow. There he came in the middleweight division to victories over Denis Forow, Armenia and Norikatsu Saikawa, Japan and subsequently lost against Pablo Enrique Shorey Hernandez from Cuba and Alchazur Oschijew, Kazakhstan, with which he came on the 8th Place.

Also in 2011 he was at the World Cup at the start. In Istanbul he lost however in the middleweight division like his first fight against Melonin Noumonvi from France quite clearly. Since Noumonvi not reached the final, he was eliminated and only came on the 32nd. At the European Championships 2011 in Belgrade, he came to victories over Melonin Noumonvi and Artur Omarov, Czech Republic, then lost to Christo Marinov, Bulgaria and against Viktor Lörincz, Hungary and finished 7th. In May 2012, he managed to qualify at the last possible opportunity, a tournament in Helsinki, with a 2nd place behind Christo Marinov for the Olympic Games in London. In London he performed well and won against Hassan Saman Tahmasebi, Azerbaijan and Wasil Rachyba, Ukraine. Then he lost to Alan Chugajew from Russia and in the consolation round against Daniel Gadschijew from Kazakhstan and missed so with a 5th place just a medal.

At the European Championships in 2013 at home in Tbilisi, he succeeded then to finally win a medal also among older people in an international championship. He defeated in Tbilisi middleweight Adrian Mocanu, Moldova, Christo Marinov and Artur Schahinjan from Armenia and only lost in the final narrowly to the Russian veteran Alexei Mishin (1:2 rounds, 2:4 points). He thus became European vice-champion.
