The Volvo V40 is a passenger car model of the Swedish automaker Volvo, which was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012 and since September 15, 2012, is available.
It is a five-door hatchback sedan in the compact class, which replaces the S40 and V50 models. Both have been removed from the program in May 2012, while the coupe-like C30 was still produced until the end of 2012.
The manufacturer took the market presentation in the period July / August 2012, a six-week ready for you event at the Messe Dresden instead, which selected people allowed to carry out extensive testing and slaloms with several vehicles in this series.
History
The last new Volvo used the V40 nor the C1 platform from Ford The car is available with three diesel and gasoline engines. The top version, a turbocharged 2.5-liter petrol engine, it makes 187 kW (254 hp). A start -stop system and braking energy recuperation system are standard, buyers also have the choice between automatic and manual transmissions. A special feature of the V40 is the first car ever equipped with a pedestrian airbag that deploys in a collision with lightning speed over the lower third of the windshield and A-pillar. At the same time automatically lifts the hood to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians considerably. Also, each V40 is equipped with a City Safety system.
Since the beginning of 2013 a higher specified off-road version is sold as a Volvo V40 Cross Country. This has, in conjunction with the strongest petrol engine as standard all-wheel drive, with all other engines are available with front-wheel drive.
Also at the beginning of 2013, the manufacturer has expanded its product line sporty R-Design on the V40. This variant carries a modified front grill with vertically arranged LED daytime running lights. The rear apron includes a diffuser with dual exhaust pipes. In addition, this version features aluminum exterior mirror caps, front grille with black piano lacquer and R-Design logo, as well as various details in the interior, like blue instrument lighting and a black headliner.
