Waitakere City

Waitakere is a city on the North Island of New Zealand and is located in the Auckland region. With about 200,000 inhabitants Waitakere is the fifth largest administrative unit in the country and together with Manukau, Auckland City and North Shore with about 1.3 million inhabitants, by far the largest metropolitan area of New Zealand, the Auckland metropolitan area.

Geography

The urban district is bordered to the north by the Rodney District, in the northeast on North Shore and in the southeast the city district of Auckland. Of the remaining pages Waitakere is surrounded by water: on the whole length of the district of the Tasman Sea forms the western border, while in the south of the Manukau Harbour, a natural harbor protected from the sea far enough to the east and separates the city from the south -lying Franklin District. Culture and sights

The city has its own unique cultural heritage, as it is the home of the Dalmatian population. These are the descendants of the Dalmatian Croatia in the present, late 19th century and early 20th century emigrant population.

Worth seeing in the surroundings of the city are the black sandy beaches of Piha Beach, Karekare Beach, Muriwai Beach Gannet Colony and along the west-facing coast, and the wild nature in the Waitakere Ranges with opportunities for bush walks, horse riding opportunities and more.

Economy and infrastructure

Major industrial areas that developed in Waitakere over 150 years and now often play only a minor role, are Tonziegelfabriken, wood processing plants (mainly Kauri tree ), fruits, and two important bases of the Royal New Zealand Air Force in Whenuapai and Hobsonville. Today in Waitakere are numerous retail businesses and small and medium enterprises in the manufacturing industry. Niche industries are boat building, wine-making and film / television industry.
