Waterfront Station (Vancouver)
Waterfront (English Waterfront Station ) is a purpose-built in neo-classical railway station in the center of the Canadian city of Vancouver. It is located at 601 West Cordova Street, on the south shore of Burrard Inlet and a short walk from the historic Gastown.
The station is a major transport junction and terminus following Translink lines:
- Expo Line SkyTrain after Burnaby, New Westminster and Surrey
- Millennium Line SkyTrain after Burnaby and New Westminster
- Canada Line SkyTrain to Richmond and Vancouver International Airport ( under construction, opening in November 2009)
- SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay Ferry in North Vancouver
- West Coast Express to Port Moody, Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and Mission.
- Many urban and regional bus lines
On May 23, 1887, the first train of the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived in Vancouver. The first station was in 1912 replaced by a new building in neo-Gothic style. This served for more than six decades as a western terminus of the transcontinental railway to Montreal and Toronto. As of 1977, the railway facilities were removed from the old train station and rebuilt a little further east in use today building. 1979 VIA Rail moved the terminus of the trans-regional lines to Pacific Central Station on False Creek.
