Weissbach bei Liezen is a municipality with 1116 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Styria in the judicial district or Liezen in the Enns Valley, about three miles west of the district capital Lienzen.

Geography

The community Weissbach bei Liezen is delimited by Hinterstoder the east by the municipality Liezen, to the south by Lassing and Aigen in the Enns Valley, on the west by Woerschach and in the north.

History

1145, the village was first mentioned as Wiezenbach. 1696 there was an uprising of the peasants against the " field - tithe ". 1738 the scythe factory of Veit Moser was founded as nailers. 1830 was issued in Weissbach first school. The abolition of the manorial system was carried out in 1848., The local church as an autonomous body was established in 1850. 1914 was the founding year of the volunteer fire department Weissbach. 1934 a supposed assassin was shot at the railway bridge Weissbach attempted coup by the Nazis. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, a kingdom labor camp was built on the Bacher reasons. 1945 to 1955 the community was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. 1962 took place in the European Championships at the art toboggan run. In 1968 the consecration of the newly built church in Weissenbach.

Coat of arms

The German explorer Hermann von Wissmann (1853-1905) spent his last years at his country estate in Weissbach in Lienzen. The politician Odo Wöhry (* 1956) was from 1993 to 2001 vice- mayor of the municipality.
