Wesley Sneijder ( born June 9, 1984 in Utrecht) is a Dutch international footballer who stands since January 2013 at Galatasaray in the Turkish Süper Lig under contract.

Career

In the club

Sneijder joined with seven years in the academy of Ajax Amsterdam, already coached his older brother Jeffrey. His professional league debut Sneijder graduated with Ajax in a 6-0 away win against Willem II Tilburg on February 2, 2003. His first goal he scored on 5 March 2003 in a 4-1 home win against FC Groningen.

In August 2007, Sneijder moved for 27 million euros to the Spanish giants Real Madrid in the Primera Division, with whom he signed a contract until 2012. For Ajax Amsterdam this was the then highest ever cashed transfer fee for a player. At Real Madrid, he first wore the shirt number 23, but received after one year, the playmaker number 10 in the first three league games for Real Sneijder scored four goals and secured a regular place.

In August 2009, Inter Milan Sneijder committed for a transfer fee of about 15 million euros. At Inter, he signed a four-year contract and received as in Madrid will wear the number 10 on October 3, 2009 with the 2-1 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, he scored against Udinese Calcio in the 93rd minute, his first goal for Inter. The end of 2012 Inter Milan Sneijder wanted to extend contract, but at a lower salary. Since Sneijder refused, he no longer was used. On January 22, 2013, he joined the Süper Lig Galatasaray Istanbul. His contract with the Turkish first division club runs until 30 June 2016.

His debut for Galatasaray Sneijder was on January 27 in the derby against Besiktas Istanbul, where he came on in the second half of the game for Emre Çolak. The game could decide 2-1 for the Lions. On 5 May 2013, celebrated with Galatasaray, the Turkish championship.

In the National Team

His first game for the Dutch national team Sneijder completed on 30 April 2003 against Portugal, before that he had been used already in the U -21. As a substitute Sneijder took part in the 2004 European Cup, in which he came to two inserts.

At the 2006 World Cup, he belonged to the tribe formation of the Dutch and was also at the European Championships in 2008 on the national team. In the first two group games against France and Italy, he scored a goal each, and was named player of the day.

In early June 2010, he was appointed to the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. There he met five times: in the preliminary round match against Japan 1-0, in the second round against Slovakia 2-0, he scored both goals in the 2-1 quarter-final win against Brazil as well as the time between 2-1 goals in 3: 2 semi-final win against Uruguay. In the final, the Netherlands, Spain were defeated 0-1. However, Sneijder was named in four of seven games for Man of the Match and awarded after the tournament with the Silver Ball as the second best player and the Bronze Shoe as the third- leading scorer.

At Euro 2012, Sneijder was a regular player that Dutch team that was knocked out for the first time with zero points from a European Championship tournament. Sneijder tried by media assessment only player of the Netherlands to fight against the bad team spirit and individualism of the team.

On August 14, 2012 Sneijder was appointed captain of the Dutch national team. He succeeded after Mark van Bommel, who resigned after leaving in the preliminary round at the European Championships in 2012.

Game style

Sneijder can be used in both the central as well as in left midfield versatile. It is distinguished by especially precise as the powerful shot, despite its often were too frail figure ( 170 cm, 67 kg). He is also difficult to separate from the ball and surprised regularly with creative and accurate passes into the tip. Due to its precise long shots and free kicks he is nicknamed Sniper ( Sniper ).

Private

Sneijder has an older brother, Jeffrey, who was also a professional footballer and now has ended his career. His younger brother Rodney plays for Almere City FC.

He was married from 2005 to 2009 with Ramona Streekstra. The marriage went forth a son, to whom he dedicated his tattoo on his left upper arm. Sneijder converted in 2010, during his time in Italy, from Protestantism to Roman Catholicism. In the same year he married Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen, a Spanish- Dutch actress.
