UEFA Team of the Year
The members of the official UEFA Team of the Year will be announced annually since 2001 through an Internet option on the website of UEFA. To this end, operators should provide the website together a shortlist of outstanding players and coaches, from which the visitors to the site can make their personal team of last year ( a goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders, two forwards and a coach ). The votes are added up and announced the result on the website. In the UEFA Team of the Year is however not an official award of UEFA. Nevertheless, the choice is extremely popular, reflecting the annually increasing number of votes.

Records
Most commonly, the player Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated for the UEFA Team of the Year ( eight times ). With four nominations José Mourinho is the most successful coach. The most successful team (38 nominations ) is the FC Barcelona: 35 time players and three times the coach of this club were elected to the UEFA Team of the Year.
