William Kinnear

William Duthie " Wally " Kinnear ( born December 3, 1880 in Mary Kirk, Aberdeenshire, † March 5, 1974 in London) was a British rower. He is considered one of the best rowers in the period before the First World War.

Kinnear moved in 1902 from home to start a career at Debenhams. In college he learned the rowing know and was enthusiastic about it. In a number of rowing competitions on the River Thames, he won, even without interruption 1903-1911. He took part in the Olympic Games in 1912 in Stockholm and won the gold medal in One. Later in the year he won for the third time, The Wingfield Sculls, an English rowing competition.

During World War II he served with the Royal Naval Air Service, then he became a coach of various rowers. On 12 March 2007 Kinnear was inducted into the Scottish Hall of Fame.
