Willie Ormond

William " Willie" Esplin Ormond OBE ( born February 23, 1927 in Falkirk; † 4 MAY 1984 Musselburgh ) was a Scottish football player and football coach.

Career

Player

Ormond began one year after the end of World War II at FC Stenhousemuir his footballing career, an association whose viewpoint is located not far from his birthplace, Falkirk. There he remained, however, not even one year. In November of 1946 he moved to league rivals FC Hibernian, where he spent nearly his entire career as a player following. In the 1950s belonged to Willie Ormond alongside Bobby Johnstone, Lawrie Reilly, Eddie Turnbull and Gordon Smith to the Famous Five, five famous attack players from Hibernian FC, ​​who were among the best Scottish football players. During this time he participated in the World Cup in 1954 in Switzerland with Scotland. 1961 Ormond moved again to his hometown club FC Falkirk, in which a year later ended his career.

Coach

Willie Ormond's first head coaching position he adopted five years after the end of his career at FC St. Johnstone. Previously, he had worked as an assistant coach at FC Falkirk. In 1969, he led St. Johnstone to the final of the Scottish League Cup and third place in the league, which meant a first-time participation in the European Cup. Between 1973 and 1977 he coached the Scottish national team. After his post as coach, he worked from 1977 at Heart of Midlothian.
