Willie Steele

William " Willie" Samuel Steele (* July 14, 1923 in Seeley (California ), † September 19, 1989 in Oakland ) was an American track and field athlete. At a height of 1.80 m his competition weight was 73 kg.

Willie Steele was 1942 with 7.81 meters world annual Best in the long jump. Subsequently he was a soldier in the Second World War. After the war, he was the world's annual Best of the year 1946 until 1948. His best performance of 8.07 meters from 1947, the second best performance was world behind Jesse Owens.

In 1948, he won the long jump at the Olympic Games in 1948. With 7,825 meters, it was 27 inches from the Second, the Australian Theo Bruce.
