Winikon

Winikon was until December 31, 2008, a municipality in the canton of Lucerne Sursee in Switzerland.

On 1 January 2009 Winikon has merged with the municipality of Kulmerau Kulmerau.

Geography

Winikon located in Suhrental on the border with the Canton of Aargau. The place consists of the village, by the village flows the creek, and numerous groups of houses and farmsteads.

The northern boundary of the former municipality was in light southwest direction from the Suhre over to Uerke. The municipal boundary followed the course of the stream stream up and then turned to the southeast up to the street Uffikon - Winikon. Demographics

The population grew rapidly from 1745 to 1850 ( from 1745 to 1850: 104.4 %) and doubled. Then the town became entangled in the flight from the land of the rural communities in the industrial areas and the population dropped to 1900 back to the level of 1798 ( from 1850 to 1900: -36.3 %). Then followed until 1960 Up and Down The population was 1960 at the same depth as 1910 ( 1910-1960: 0.5 %) and only slightly higher than in 1900 ( from 1900 to 1960: 2.3 %). Languages

The population used as everyday language, a high- Alemannic dialect. At the last census in 2000 gave 90.39 % German, 3.28% Albanian and Serbo-Croatian at 1.86% as the main language.

Religions - faiths

Previously, all the inhabitants were members of the Roman Catholic Church. Today ( as of 2000) provides for the religious composition of the population as follows. There are 66.75 % Roman Catholic, 14.59 % Protestant Reformed and 0.63 % Orthodox Christians. In addition, one finds 5.96 % Muslim and 4.82% non-religious. The Muslims and the Orthodox are from Serbia and Montenegro ( Albanians, Serbs and Montenegrins ).

Origin - Nationality

Of the 744 residents in late 2006 were 687 Swiss and 57 ( = 7.7%) foreigners. At the last census was 88.71 % ( 90.23 % including dual citizens ) Swiss nationals. The immigrant groups come from Serbia and Montenegro ( Albanians and Slavs ), Germany, Italy and Portugal.

History

The area of Winikon has a long history of settlement. A stone ax from the Stone Age, a grave from the Hallstatt period and remains from the Roman period ( a villa and lime kilns have been excavated ) testify to this. First mentioned by name in the first place Wininchon land register of the monastery of Engelberg from the years 1178/1197.
