Wynigen [ ʋi niɡən ː ] is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

It is located east of Burgdorf at the border between the Emmental and the Upper Aargau. With an area of ​​over 2800 ha ( about 1660 ha of agricultural land and 985 ha of forest ) is Wynigen area the largest of the 24 municipalities in the former administrative district of Burgdorf.

Population

History

1185 Wynigen is first mentioned. In the Middle Ages the village was placed under the Lords of Grimm stone and fell on March 3, 1497 in the city of Bern. In 1653 it was a venue of the Swiss peasant war. In 1887 the then independent municipality crusher houses was merged with Wynigen. In 1911 the merger with Bickigen - Schwanden became final.

In addition to the small business Wynigen is the site of a major substation of the power plant company BKW. It is the intermediate station between the Gemmileitung Creux -de- Chippis and running Castle and the end point of several other high-voltage lines.

Traffic

Wynigen is connected by main road with A1 Kirchberg and the highway. Furthermore, the village is accessible by two bus routes to Burgdorf and Herzogenbuchsee, which meet at the train station and Wynigen are tailored to the trains.

Wynigen has a station on the Altstrecke between Olten and Bern and each hour served by inter-regional trains of the relation Olten- Bern. Attractions

The Reformed Church is medieval in the nucleus and was renewed in 1671 by Abraham Dünz. It has a Romanesque tower and inside a late Gothic and Baroque ceiling strips grisaille paintings. In this church, the priest poet Jeremias Gotthelf was married by his friend and colleague Gabriel Farschon in 1833. Next to the church is the rectory of 1630 with late Gothic stained glass windows. The farm in crusher houses was known in the Gotthelf adaptations of Uli Uli Knecht and the tenant as " Glungge " yard.
