Xinxiang (新乡 市/新乡 市, Xinxiang shì, New home ') is a prefecture-level city in northern Henan province. In the census of 2010 Xinxiang had 5,707,801 inhabitants, of whom 779 775 in the inner city districts Weibin, Hongqi and Muye ( comparative figures: about 5.51 million inhabitants ( end of 2004), of which 748 165 (1 January 2005 ) in the inner districts ). As the city is growing rapidly, the cities Huixian and Weihui and the districts Fengquan and Xinxiang be added to the inner city districts in a few years.

The Xinxiang City is predominantly in the lowlands and extends over an area of 8629 km ². It borders the provincial capital of Zhengzhou to the southwest, Kaifeng to the southeast, Hebi and Anyang to the north, and Jiaozuo to the west. In the north- west and east are the provinces of Shanxi and Shandong.
With an average annual temperature of 14 ° C Xinxiang enjoys a mild continental climate with four clearly distinguishable seasons. Spring and autumn are perceived by central Europeans as particularly pleasant.
Xinxiang was the site of the Battle of Muye in which the Shang Dynasty was defeated by the Zhou Dynasty. Under the Sui Dynasty ( 581-618 ) was located in the district of Xinxiang a small market town. It was expanded in the 1950s as an industrial center. From 1949 to 1952 the short-lived capital Xinxiang Pingyuan Province was (平原 省), which was then the neighboring cities of Anyang, Hebi, Puyang, Jiaozuo and Heze included.
The city is made up of four city districts, six counties and two independent cities together:

- City district Hongqi (红旗 区), 99 km ², 280,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- Municipality Fengquan (凤 泉 区), 115 km ², 130,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- Municipality Muye (牧野 区), 80 km ², approximately 270,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- District Xinxiang (新乡 县), 365 km ², approximately 310,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- Circle Huojia (获嘉 县), 473 km ², 390,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- Yuanyang county (原阳县), 1339 km ², approximately 660,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- Circle Yanjin (延津 县), 946 km ², approximately 470,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- Circle Fengqiu (封丘 县), 1220 km ², approximately 730,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- Circle Changyuan (长垣县), 1051 km ², approximately 790,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- City Weihui (卫辉 市), 882 km ², 480,000 inhabitants (2003 );
- City Huixian (辉县 市), 2007 km ², approximately 780,000 inhabitants (2003 ).
Economy and infrastructure
Natural Resources and Energy
So far, 20 different minerals have been discovered in the vicinity of Xinxiang, including coal with only 8.4 billion tons, also limestone, granite and clay. The water supply secure the Yellow River and its tributaries. With a capacity of 1700 megawatts Xinxiang is the main electric utility in central China. In construction, the Baoquan Hydraulic Power Plant are (4 x 300 MW ) and the Baoshan Power Plant (2 x 600 MW ).
Agriculture and Industry
The favorable climate and fertile soil create good conditions for the cultivation of wheat and cotton. As early center of cotton processing Xinxiang is still a producer of textiles. More goods are food. In the field of heavy industry, especially manufacturing has meaning.
Xinxiang is home to several major companies, including Frestech Refrigerator, Golden Dragon Copper Group, Bailu Chemical Fibre, Henan Kelong Group and AVIC Xinhang Industry Corporation. The Henan Xinxiang Economic Development Zone with a planned area of 30 km2 is an industrial development zone with the main fields of medicine, chemistry and engineering. More than 35 companies are located there. A further 20 km2, the Henan Changyuan Crane Industry Zone, one of the most important Chinese production facilities for cranes with about 140 companies. There cranes for heavy loads, containers and port facility are predominantly produced. With the Qiaobei New District creates a scheduled 16.9 km2 area, which will specialize in hi- tech products in the fields of agriculture, trade and logistics.
With six universities and colleges and 120,000 students enrolled Xinxiang in Henan Province is second only to the provincial capital of Zhengzhou. The educational institutions are:

- Xinxiang University ( English), in the eastern part of the city of new combined university with 21 faculties in three centers;
- Henan Institute of Science and Technology (English );
- Xinxiang Medical University ( English);
- Henan Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College;
- Xinxiang Hygiene School.
Of the 105 research institutes in the city are three operated by the state:
- China Research Institute of Radio Wave Propagation;
- Farmland Irrigation Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences;
- Precise Copper Tube Project Research Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Xinxiang is located on the railway line from Beijing to Guangzhou. In addition, the city on the Wei River (卫 河), which was made navigable for small boats in the 1950s, coupled with Tianjin. Discharges from the chemical industry led to the Wei silted. By dredging initially a lake could be restored. Meanwhile, the river has largely recovered. By Xinxiang runs of Highway No. 107 from Beijing to Shenzhen. In construction, the highways are from Beijing to Hong Kong and Macao, also from Daqing to Guangzhou, Jiyuan after Dongming and of Xinxiang after Lingchuan. As the headquarters of the 54th Army Group of the People's Liberation Army is responsible Xinxiang with two other army groups for the defense of the plains of the Yellow River in Jinan region.
Culture and sights
If the city founded in its present form in 1952, the region has yet a long history. Testify 46 cultural sites that are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( Henan). There are also other 60 sites of national or regional significance.
As the " Hundred Springs " ( Baiquan ) refers to a 22 km from Xinxiang distant landscape with numerous watercourses, which was appreciated already 3000 years ago because of her beauty. This is supported by several archaeological finds.
Baligou, 50 km from Xinxiang, is famous for its lakes and waterfalls against the backdrop of the green mountains of the Taihang.
Tomb and Temple of Bigan were erected to commemorate a minister at the time of Emperor Zhou Wuwang - Keyin. They date about the 5th century of our era. In the temple there are more than 100 stone tablets, including a historical and kaligraphisch significant plaque on Bigan. The text praises the patriotic sentiments of the minister and became a model for later inscriptions.
Guanshan Geological Park
The km2 area in Huixian is testimony of faults in the earth about 2.5 billion years ago. The most important formations are the " stairway to heaven" Yi Xian tian, a group of columnar rocks, the " sky bridge " and the great cliff. Waterfalls, springs, crystal clear streams and deep ponds dot the landscape.
Lujian wang mu
13 kilometers north of the city center is located on the southern slope of Mount Fenghuang the mausoleum of Prince Lujian, brother of Emperor Wan Li as nearly identical copy of a tomb of the Ming Dynasty on the outskirts of Beijing, it reflects the pursuit of power of princes. 13 groups of real and mythological animals surround the portal of the tomb, which suffered damage during the Cultural Revolution. It was so far though only partially restored to its original state, but is the best preserved Ming grave China.

With the bergischen city of Wuppertal, a treaty of friendship was concluded on 25 April 2012. Relations with Wuppertal, the birthplace of the most esteemed in China Friedrich Engels, intensified after a visit to Germany by Xinxiangs Mayor Zhou Jian in April 2011.
