XML Information Set
XML Information Set ( Infoset) is a W3C standard with the status of a Recommendation.
The Infoset specification provides the basis for a number of other specifications, which have to make formal statements about the information content of XML documents.
A well-formed XML document has an "information set" The "information set" of such a document can have the following 11 types of information carriers ( "information items" ) included. :
- The document
- The elements
- The attributes
- The processing instructions ( "processing instructions" )
- The unresolved references to entities
- The individual letters
- The comments
- The document type declaration
- The unprocessed references to entities
- The notations
- The namespace information
The currently valid second edition of the Infoset standard was adopted on 4 February 2004.
