Zemné

Zemné (Hungarian Szimo ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia.

Location

It is located in the Danube plain on the left bank of the Vah, 15 km west of Nové Zámky.

Administratively belongs to the municipality also the former capital of GUG.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1113 as GUG ​​and was originally 8 km to the east. In the wake of the Turkish wars, the population has moved to " safer " peaty soil on the banks of the Waag.

Until 1919 it belonged to the county Komárom the Kingdom of Hungary, after which they came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Because of the First Vienna Award in 1938-45 it belonged again to Hungary and since 1993 has been part of the present-day Slovakia. 1954, parts of the municipal area of the south side of the Waag past and newly created community Dedina Mládeže assigned.

The population according to the 2001 census (75 %) were formed by Magyar majority; other ethnic groups are Slovaks ( 15%) and Roma ( 10%).
