Zhang Dejiang

Zhang Dejiang (Chinese张德江/张德江, Pinyin Zhang Dejiang; * November 1946 in Tai'an, Liaoning Province, Republic of China) is a Chinese communist politician and since 2002 a member of the Politburo since 2008 as Deputy Prime Minister Member of the State Council and, since March 2012 party chief of Chongqing city. In March 2013, the National People's Congress elected him as its Chairman.

Study and academic career

After studying at the Faculty of Economics of the Kim Il-sung University, he was sent as a young intellectuals working in the fields in the Jilin Province in northeast China in November 1968. From 1970 to 1972 he was secretary of the Communist Youth League and for Propaganda in Wangqing County. In January 1971 he joined the Communist Party of China at ( CCP).

From 1972 to 1975, he completed a study of the Korean language at the University of Yanbian. He then worked as a lecturer and deputy secretary of the Party organization at the Faculty of the Korean language at the University of Yanbian. At the same time he was until 1978 a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Revolutionary Committee of the University. From 1978 to 1980 he did postgraduate studies at the Kim Il Sung University in North Korea. During this time he was also secretary of the Party organization of the Chinese students at the University.

He was again a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice- Rector of the University of Yanbian then.

Party Secretary and climb to the member of the Politburo

In 1983, he was Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Yanji, capital of Yanbian Autonomous Prefecture. At the same time he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Yanbian in this function. After working as a Vice Minister of Civil Affairs and Deputy Secretary of the Party organization of the Ministry in Beijing from 1986 to 1990, he returned to the province of Jilin. There he was, until 1995, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and shall act as secretary of the Party Committee of Yanbian Autonomous Prefecture. At the 14th Congress of the CPC in 1992, he was elected to the candidate of the Central Committee ( CC). 1995-1998 Secretary of the Party Committee of Jilin Province. In 1998, he was engaged for a short time Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress. At the 15th Congress of the CPC 1997 he was a member of the Central Committee of the CCP.

1998 he was appointed secretary of the Party committee of Zhejiang Province in southeastern China.

At the 16th Party Congress of the CCP, he finally became a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee in 2002. In November 2002 he became secretary of the Party committee of the fourth largest province of Guangdong. In this role, he found himself repeatedly exposed to criticism as its crisis management of the SARS epidemic in 2003, or the treatment of followers of Falun Gong. On 8 November 2005, he was served a subpoena by the Supreme Court of New South Wales because of the torture of a follower of Falun Gong from Sydney. 2007 followed by Wang Yang in this function.

Zhang since 2008 as Deputy Prime Minister of the State Council and Member since November 2012 Member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo.
