2009–10 UEFA Europa League

The UEFA Europa League 2009/10 was the 39th edition of the second most important competition for European football clubs, which took place up to the 2008/09 season under the name of the UEFA Cup. The contest took this season 192 clubs from all 53 national associations of UEFA part.

The season began with the first leg of the first qualifying round on 2 July 2009 and ended with the final on 12 May 2010 at the Hamburg Arena, the Atlético Madrid 2-1 aet won against Fulham.

Mode

Entitled to participate were all the clubs who had occupied one of the matters governed by the UEFA five year ranking UEFA Cup places in the past to end the season. In the draws for the qualifying rounds, the teams were based equally divided according to their club coefficient in set (stronger ) and unseeded (weaker ) teams drawn against each other. In addition, in the qualifying rounds, no two teams from the same nation be drawn against each other. The former practice of pre-disposition of the teams in the three regional zones north, central / east and south, which should reduce the travel expenses of the qualifiers, was abolished. The fourth and final qualifying round was called for better marketing " play-off ". The qualification on the UEFA Intertoto Cup was omitted since this competition was discontinued in 2008. 76 teams took part, including the 35 winners from the third qualifying round and the 15 losers in the third qualifying round of the Champions League Dinamo Zagreb, ŠK Slovan Bratislava, NK Maribor, FK Partizan Belgrade, Slavia Prague, FK Aktobe, FK Baku, BATE Borisov, FC Levadia Tallinn, Stabæk IF, Sparta Prague, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Twente Enschede, Dynamo Moscow and Sivasspor.

The first legs took place on 20 August and the return legs on 27 August 2009.

Group stage

At the group stage, 48 teams took part in 12 groups of four, with the group winners and runners- qualified for the round of.

The table first and second group stage come on, third - and fourth-placed teams will be eliminated. These 24 teams still encounter the eight third group from the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2009/10. These were Unirea Urziceni, Juventus, Wolfsburg, Olympique Marseille, Liverpool, Rubin Kazan, Standard Liege and Atlético Madrid.
