Alfred J. Elliott

Alfred James Elliott (born 1 June 1895 in Guinda, Yolo County, California, † January 17, 1973 in Tulare, California ) was an American politician. Between 1937 and 1949 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1901, Alfred Elliott moved with his parents to winter and 1910 Tulare. He attended the public schools of his respective home. Later he worked as a farmer and rancher. He also was owner and publisher of a newspaper. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1933 and 1937, Elliott was District in Tulare County; In 1936 he was a member of the California Security Council.

After the death of Congressman Henry E. Stubbs Elliott was at the due election for the seat tenth of California as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on May 4, 1937. After five elections he could remain until January 3, 1949 in Congress. During his time in Parliament, further New Deal legislation of the Federal Government there were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt until 1941. 1946 Elliott waived on a bid again. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he was head of the newspaper " Tulare Daily News". Until 1965 he worked as a farmer and rancher. Then he withdrew into retirement. He died on January 17, 1973 in Tulare, where he was also buried.
