John I. Nolan

John Ignatius Nolan ( born January 14, 1874 in San Francisco, California, † November 18, 1922 ) was an American politician. Between 1913 and 1922 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Nolan attended the common schools and then worked as in iron processing as iron smelters. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. In 1911 he was a town councilor in San Francisco and County Council in San Francisco County. A year later, he served as secretary of the San Francisco Labor Council.

In the congressional elections of 1912 Nolan was in the fifth electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeds Everis A. Hayes took up on March 4, 1913, who moved into the eighth district. After four elections he could remain until his death on November 18, 1922 in Congress. During his time in Parliament, the First World War fell. Also, were ratified in the years 1913-1920 the 16th, the 17th, the 18th and the 19th Amendment. Between 1919 and 1921, Nolan was chairman of the Patent Committee. Since 1921, he headed the Committee on Labor.

At the time of his death Nolan had already been re-elected for the next term of office. His deputy's mandate was made after a special election to his widow Mae.
