Bill Thomas

William Marshall "Bill" Thomas ( born December 6, 1941 in Wallace, Shoshone County, Idaho) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 2007 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bill Thomas visited until 1961, the Santa Ana Community College and then studied until 1965 at the San Francisco State University. From 1965 to 1974 he was a member of the faculty as an instructor of Bakersfield College. Then he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. From 1974 to 1978 he sat as a deputy in the California State Assembly.

In the congressional elections of 1978, Thomas was in the 18th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the late William M. Ketchum on January 3, 1979. After 13 re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 2007, a total 14 legislative periods. From 1983 to 1993 he represented the 20th district of his state. After that, he was until 2003 MP for 21 and then for 22 constituency. Thomas was between 1995 and 2001 chairman of the Rules Committee; 2001 to 2007 he headed the Committee on Ways and Means. In his time as a congressman of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. In 1992 he was involved in the Rubber gate scandal.

In 2006, Thomas opted not to run again. He is married and has two adult children.
