Jerry M. Patterson

Jerry Mumford Patterson ( born October 25, 1934 in El Paso, Texas) is an American politician. Between 1975 and 1985 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jerry Patterson attended until 1952, the Tucson High School in Arizona. From 1953 to 1957 he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Then he studied until 1960 at the California State University at Long Beach. He was also enrolled 1960-1963 at the University of Southern California. After a subsequent law studies at the University of California at Los Angeles and his in 1967 was admitted as a lawyer in Santa Ana, he began to work in this profession. Between 1973 and 1975 he was the legal representative of the community Placentia. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. From 1969 to 1973 he was a town councilor in Santa Ana; 1973 to 1975, he served there as mayor. In the years 1976, 1980 and 1984 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions relevant.

In the congressional elections of 1974, Patterson was on the 38th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George Brown on January 3, 1975. After four elections he could pass in Congress until January 3, 1985 five legislative sessions. Between 1979 and 1981 he was chairman of the Committee on the reform of the congressional committees. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He also gave 1986-1999 as a visiting professor lectures at California State University at Long Beach. In 1987 he was city attorney in Cypress. After that, he was president of the Coast Community College District Board. Jerry Patterson is married to the local politician Linda Moulton - Patterson. The couple has four grown children and six grandchildren. The family lives in Fountain Valley.
