John H. Rousselot

John Harbin Rousselot ( born November 1, 1927 in Los Angeles, California, † 11 May 2003 in Irvine, California ) was an American politician. Between 1961 and 1983 he represented two times the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Rousselot attended the public schools of his home. Then he studied until 1949 at Principia College in Elsah (Illinois ). He then worked as an insurance agent. In the years 1954 and 1955 he was in the public relations department of the company Pacific Finance Corp.. active in Los Angeles. From 1958 to 1960 he also worked in the public relations department of the Federal Housing Administration in Washington DC At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. In August 1956 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in San Francisco, was nominated to the President Dwight D. Eisenhower for reelection.

In the years 1956 and 1957, Rousselot was a member of the State Board of Republicans for California. In the congressional elections of 1960, he was elected in the 25th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of George A. Kasem on January 3, 1961. Since he has not been confirmed in 1962, he was initially able to do only one term in Congress until January 3, 1963. Subsequently he worked as a business consultant. After the death of the deputy Glenard P. Lipscomb Rousselot was chosen as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in the overdue election for the 24th seat of his state, where he took up his new mandate on 30 June 1970. After six re- elections he could remain until January 3, 1983 at the Congress. Since 1976 he represented there as a successor of Thomas M. Rees 26th District of California. In his time as a congressman the end of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement, and in 1974, the Watergate affair fell.

1982 John Rousselot was not re-elected. In 1983 he was part of the senior staff of President Ronald Reagan. From 1985 to 1988 he was president of the National Council of Saving Institutions. In 1992, he competed unsuccessfully for his return to the Congress. John Rousselot died on 11 May 2003 in Irvine.
