Lawrence J. Flaherty

Lawrence James Flaherty ( born July 4, 1878 in San Mateo, California, † June 13, 1926 in New York City ) was an American politician. In the years 1925 and 1926 he represented the State of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1888, Lawrence Flaherty came with his parents to San Francisco, where he attended the public schools. He then completed a teacher as a bricklayer in concrete construction. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. Between 1911 and 1915, Flaherty sat in the police committee of the city of San Francisco; 1915 to 1922 he was a member of the Senate of California. Since November 1921 to March 3, 1925, he headed the Federal Customs Authority at the port of San Francisco.

In the congressional elections of 1924, Flaherty was in the fifth electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Mae Nolan on March 4, 1925. He could his expiring on March 3, 1927 legislative session in Congress but not quit since he died in New York in June 13, 1926. His mandate was made after a special election to Richard J. Welch.
