Ede Király

Ede Király [ ɛdɛ kira ː j] ( born February 21, 1926 in Budapest, † August 10 2009 in Canada) was a Hungarian figure skater, who started in a single run and pair skating.

In single seven-time Hungarian champion won the bronze medal in the men's competition at the World Championships in 1948 and 1949 and 1950 Vice World Champion behind Richard Button. At the European Championships 1949, he won silver behind Edi Rada, 1950 he was European champion in Oslo. The Olympic Games 1948 in St. Moritz, he finished in fifth place.

In pair skating, he was with Andrea Kékesy in the years 1944 and 1947-1949 Hungarian Champion. In 1948 the pair skating in Prague became European Champion. At the World Cup in Davos and the Olympic Games in St. Moritz, they won the silver medal behind the Belgians Micheline Lannoy and Pierre Baugniet. 1949 defended Király and Kékesy in Milan their European Championship title in Paris and were world champions.

After the World Cup 1950 Kiraly and Kékesy remained in London to escape the communist regime in their homeland. Then Király went to Canada and worked as a figure skating coach, including for Donald Jackson.
