John Shimkus

John Mondy Shimkus ( born February 21, 1958 in Collinsville, Illinois ) is an American politician of the Republican Party. He joined the U.S. House of Representatives as a deputy for the state of Illinois.

Life

Shimkus attended Collinsville High School in 1980, he joined the Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor's degree. After five years in the U.S. Army, he was a reservist in 1986 and retired in 2008 from the rank of lieutenant colonel from military service.

The private Christian College (now Concordia University) in Irvine (California ) in 1990, he received the teaching certificate and then taught at the Metro East Lutheran High School in Edwardsville (Illinois ). At Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, he reached in 1997 the degree of Master of Business Administration.

After various regional political offices - among other things, he served from 1990 to 1996 as treasurer of Madison County - he was elected in January 1997 for the Republicans in the House of Representatives of the 105th Congress and has since been re-elected in all of the following. Since 2013 he is representing the 15th legislative district of Illinois; previously it was the 20th and the 19th District. Shimkus is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce and four sub-committees, where he chaired the Subcommittee on Environment and Economy. In addition, he is a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Shimkus is married with three children and is a member of the Lutheran Church has - Missouri Synod.
