Geographical Location

Marxen is located on the northeast edge of the nature reserve Lueneburg Heath. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Hanstedt, which has its headquarters in the town of Hanstedt. To the west of the village flows from the Lüneburg Heath coming, the floodplain, which opens into the Seeve.

History

Marxen was first documented in 1239. Earlier spellings are Marsem ( 1239 ), Marxem (1450 ) and Marksen ( 1800 ). 1450 Marxen belongs to Goh Salzhausen. 1681 Marxen consists of nine full courts, a Halbhof, five Koten and two Brink seat Create. Museums

In Marxen is the fire museum Marxen of the district of Harburg. This museum is open in the period from 1 May to 30 September of each year.

Music

In Marxen, there are four choirs.

The North Heath Choir eV based in Marxen

A male choir, with currently 27 active members. It is sung, among others, at weddings, birthdays and other occasions; the repertoire is extensive, from ancient to modern pieces.
