Geography
The municipality is located in the High Garstedt Geest on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath, between Winsen / Luhe and salt Hausen, about 30 km south of the city limits of Hamburg. The Luhe runs to the east of the village.

1252 Garstedt was first mentioned.

Culture and sights
The varied landscape of forest, heath, meadow, mountain and valley are ideal for hiking, walking and cycling. In the extensive grounds and equestrian athletes get their money and international equestrian tournaments can be visited at the nearby Luhmühlen (village of Hausen salt ). The proximity of the Luhe invites for boating with canoes, kayaks and folding kayaks or even for bathing. In winter, when snow is present, both young and old at the Hamberg on the toboggan slopes have your fun and relax after the annual torch sledding the day.
Economy and infrastructure

Furthermore, large cities such as Bremen or the capital of Lower Saxony Hannover accessible via highways in just one and a half hours. In addition Garstedt lies on the railway line Winsen - Hützel that is traveled mainly in freight transport.
