Melvin M. Boothman

Melvin Morella Boothman (* October 16, 1846 in Bryan, Ohio; † March 5, 1904 ) was an American politician. Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Melvin Boothman attended the common schools and worked afterwards in agriculture. During the final phase of the civil war he served from January 1864 in the Army of the Union. He made with the Atlanta campaign of General William T. Sherman. After studying law at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and his 1871 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Bryan in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1871 and 1875 he was treasurer in Williams County.

In the congressional elections of 1886, Boothman was in the sixth electoral district of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat William D. Hill on March 4, 1887. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1891 two legislative sessions. In 1890 he gave up another candidacy. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Boothman again practiced as a lawyer in Bryan, where he died on March 5, 1904.
