Robert Paul

Robert Paul ( born June 2, 1937 in Toronto ) is a former Canadian figure skater, who started the pair of running.

Career

First, Robert Paul focused on his career as an individual runner, started in 1952, however, as a partner of Barbara Wagner with the pair skating. The pair was trained from the beginning of Sheldon Galbraith.

Your first success in national championships celebrated Wagner and Paul in 1954 by winning the Canadian Junior Championships in pair skating. Two years later, they have won the national title even with the seniors. From then until the end of her amateur career she remained undefeated at Canadian championships and won from 1956 to 1960 five consecutive pair skating title.

Also undefeated were Paul Wagner and 1957-1960 at the World Figure Skating Championships. They also won in 1957 and 1959 at the North American Figure Skating Championships.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley and Paul Wagner broke her freestyle routine from first, because the record when playing the freestyle music jumped and irritated. However, they were allowed to start again and have a flawless freestyle undisputed Olympic champion. They were the first Canadian Olympic champion in pair skating. Up to the Olympic Games in 2002, they remained the only Canadian couple who managed a victory at Olympia.

After the successful 1960 and Paul Wagner left the amateur sport, but were still up in 1964 as a professional in the Ice Capades on Ice Revue.

After his competitive career was Paul coach and choreographer. His students included Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill and Linda Fratianne. The American champion in 2008, Mirai Nagasu, is being supervised by Paul, among others.
