Satriano di Lucania

Satriano di Lucania is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2406 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Potenza, in the Basilicata. The community is located about miles of Potenza. Satriano di Lucania is part of the Comunità montana Melandro and lies at the Parco nazionale dell'Appennino Lucano -Val d' Agri - Lagonegrese.

History

Satrianum was the ancient center of the Lucan area. In particular, the Normans fortified the settlement. From 1098 until 1808 Satriano was a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. Since 1969, Satriano is a titular. The present settlement was from the Middle Ages to 1887 times the names Petrafixa or Pietrafesa.
