Tim Johnson (Illinois politician)

Timothy Vincent " Tim " Johnson ( born July 23, 1946 in Urbana, Illinois) is an American politician. From 2001 to 2013 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tim Johnson attended the Urbana High School and studied until 1964 at the United States Military Academy at West Point. After studying law at the College of Law at the University of Illinois and his admission as an attorney, he began to practice in this profession. He also worked in the real estate industry. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1971 and 1975 he sat in the council of Urbana; 1976-2000 he was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Illinois.

In the congressional elections of 2000, Johnson was in the 15th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Thomas W. Ewing on January 3, 2001. After five elections he could implement his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2013. In this time the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. Johnson was most recently a member of the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and in five sub-committees. He was also a five Congressional Caucuses.

On April 5, 2012 Johnson announced his retirement from Congress. His successor in the 15th district was following a reorganization of the districts John Shimkus.
