Background

The season finale of the Formula 1 season 1957 was held for the last time in Italy at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, in the following years, the season finale took place mostly on the American continent. Juan Manuel Fangio had the world title already secured, only the battle for second and third place in the drivers' championship was still open.

For the first time the steep curves of the track were not used for security reasons. These famous for the track curves were rarely used and fell steadily in the following decades, the last time the stretch at the Grand Prix of Italy was used in 1961. Maserati went one last time to the start, the team withdrew for financial reasons after the season in Formula 1 back.
