1998–99 Kazakhstan Hockey Championship

The 1998/99 season was the seventh season of the Kazakh hockey professional league. It was attended by four clubs in the competition. The title of the Kazakh champion for the first time secured the HK Bulat Temirtau.

After a two year break returned Awtomobilist Karaganda, which had previously participated in Game operation as Stroitel Karaganda, in the league championship back. For the first time for the championship reported amide Rudny and HK Schenis Astana. Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk opted not to participate in the championship round and was able to expand in a row, not the run of six league titles.

Mode

The four participants played in a single round, so that each team came up with the number of three games. The two teams with the most points reached the final of the championship. The teams ranked 3 and 4 played in another part of the third.

For a victory in the regular time of 60 minutes, a team got two points, the losing opponent went away empty-handed. Event of a tie, each team received one point.

Championship History

For the first time the championship host was divided into a pre -final and final round. In the years before the championship had always been decided in a group stage.

Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk played during the season exclusively in the uniquely played out, second-rate league of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation ( FHR) and opted not to participate in the Kazakh Cup. The second team was represented in the third-class torpedo Perwaja league, but played for the first time not in the Kazakh Cup. In addition, Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk participated in 1998 at the IIHF Continental Cup.

Preliminary round

After the three rounds of HK Bulat Temirtau secured the first place with three wins from three games. Behind it Awtomobilist Karaganda also qualified for the final. Amide Rudny and Schenis Astana qualified for the play-off for third place.

Final round

In the final round amide Rudny defeated the HK Schenis Astana almost 5:4, thus confirming the win from the previous round. In the match for the championship of the HK Bulat Temirtau remained his role as favorite, defeating Awtomobilist Karaganda with 10:6.
