Very well started the KERS cars: Hamilton tried starting from fifth to take the lead, but it apparently came to a touch of Hamilton and Webber in the Brit sliced the rear tire. Massa, who decreed as Hamilton about KERS, worked his way to fourth place behind Barrichello, Webber and Heikki Kovalainen ago, but was overhauled back in the second round of the Button. Then tried to overtake Button also Kovalainen, but as the McLaren -Mercedes had KERS, the championship leader had no chance against Kovalainen. Meanwhile, Barrichello and Webber added successively from the rest of the field. Since Webber had more fuel in the tank and the Brazilians could follow, it ran perfectly for the first Australians.

In the tenth round, it was announced that the race organizers investigated an incident between Barrichello and Webber. Webber had touched Barrichello at the start and was therefore condemned by the racing line to a drive-through penalty. On lap 14, Barrichello and Webber finally arrived at the same time in the pits. Barrichello had to do a stop and Webber complete his drive-through penalty. Since the two had a big lead on the rest of the field, Webber took the lead. Barrichello came behind Kovalainen and Massa back on track. In lap 19 Webber had to complete his first scheduled pit stop and to give its leadership. Since Kovalainen had been at the box in the meantime, Massa took the lead of the race. Behind Massa was Barrichello, who lost in the distance duel against Webber time when the Australians had a free ride.

In lap 24 Bourdais had to end his race with a hydraulic damage. It was the last race of the season for Bourdais, who was replaced after this race by Jaime Alguersuari. One lap later, Massa did his pit stop and Barrichello took the lead again the race.

After Sutil was on the box, he came up behind Massa, but before Kimi Raikkonen back on track. But the joy of the position gain did not last long, because he touched Raikkonen and damaged the front wing. A little later he had to do a repair stop and his chances of points fell significantly. At the top Webber caught up on Barrichello and reduced his deficit to just a few seconds. Barrichello also had time ahead of Webber into the pits and his chances of winning were reduced by a tank problem even further. At the top there was a double leadership of the Red Bull -Renault.

In the 35th round of the race for Räikkönen had ended. The Ferrari driver was on with engine problems in the pits. In the final pit stops, there were several leadership changes. First stopped Webber, who gave the lead to Vettel. The German had to be the next to the box and Massa took the lead. After even the Brazilians had been in the pits, Webber again took over the leadership of the race. While the Red Bull - Renault driver went to meet a double victory, the Brawn - Mercedes driver had to bring their tires up to temperature during the race and therefore drove wavy lines.

In the end, Webber won the Grand Prix of Germany ahead of his teammate Vettel. It was the first win of the Australian in his 130th Grand Prix.
