2012–13 EHF Cup

At EHF European Cup 2012/13 took part 49 handball club teams, who had in the previous season in their home countries qualified for the competition. It was the first edition of the EHF European Cup. The Cup games began on September 8, 2012 the final, which won the Rhein- Neckar Löwen, took place on 19 May 2013.

Decisions

Should the host HBC Nantes group first or one of the three best runners, so it pulls directly into the Final Four, the other 6 teams (all group winners and the best runners ) contest the quarter- finals. Otherwise, all group winners and runners- qualified for the quarter-finals.

Quarterfinals

Host HBC Nantes had qualified as best runners-up directly for the Final Four. According to the rules thus could not participate in the quarterfinals Nature House La Rioja. The draw for the quarter-finals took place at 11:45 clock in Vienna on 26 March 2013. Three pairs were formed: first, a team from Groups A and B have ever been, the third pair were the two remaining teams from group A. During the draw, there was no protection Nations. This meant that it could also lead to inter-German duels and the game Team Tvis Holstebro against KIF Kolding. Only teams that have already hit each other in the group stage, could not play against each other in the quarterfinals. The games Rhein- Neckar Löwen against KIF Kolding and Team Tvis Holstebro against RK Maribor Branik were not possible. The first legs took place on 20-21. April 2013 instead of the return matches on 27-28. April.

Goal camera

The EHF tested at the Final Four, a new camera system for observation of the goal line. The French Handball Federation has had to develop the system; It uses a wide-angle camera is mounted on the crossbar.

The referee can check if the ball has completely crossed the goal line when needed from videos.

A previous version has already been used in international matches in France.

Semifinal

The draw for the semi-finals took place in Vienna on 30 April 2013. The semi-finals took place on 18 May 2013. The winner of each game moved into the final of the EHF Cup Europe 2013.
