2012–13 UEFA Women's Champions League

The UEFA Women's Champions League 2012/13 was the twelfth playout of the European Champion competition for women's football clubs and the fourth under that name. 54 teams from 46 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first matches of the qualifying round on 11 August 2012 and ended with the final on 23 May 2013 for London's Stamford Bridge stadium. VfL Wolfsburg secured at its first participation to the title with a 1-0 final victory over the defending champions Lyon.

Participant

At the UEFA Women's Champions League 2012/13 was attended by 46 national champion and the runner-up of the eight largest regional associations. For the determination of the strongest eight national associations, UEFA five year ranking was used. The 14 national champion of the strongest regional associations as well as the eight runners-up will receive a bye and engage only in the Round of the Contest. The remaining national champion must first participate in a qualifying round.

Mode

First, the teams from the 32 lowest-ranked associations play in a qualifying round of ten participants for the main round in which added 22 additional clubs. The matches of the main round up to and including the semi-finals will be played in round-trip games. The team that scores more goals in two games, is moving into the next round. Both teams score the same number of goals, decide the number of away goals. Is the number of goals the same, the second leg is extended. Both teams score the same number of goals extension, the away team wins due to the away goals. If no goals are scored, the match will be decided on penalties. The final is decided in a game. A draw initially follows an extension and then, if necessary, a penalty shootout.

Qualification

The qualifying draw took place at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on 28 June 2012. The eight mini-tournaments were held in the period from 11 to 16 August 2012. The eight group winners and two best runners qualified for the Round of where in the competition intervened the seeded teams and the runners-up. In determining the best runners the game against the teams last was not considered.

In the Round of the representatives of the strongest associations as well as the defending champion intervened in the competition. The draw took place on August 23, 2012 in Nyon. For the draw, 16 teams were set, which first competed away. The first legs were held to 27 September, the return matches on 3 and 4 October 2012 on the 25th.

Second round

The first legs took place on 7 and 8 November 2012 on October 31 or November 1, the return games.

Quarterfinals

The first legs took place a week later on March 20, 2013, the return games. Quarter and semi-finals were drawn on 27 November 2012.

Semifinal

The first legs took place a week later on 13 or April 14, 2013, the return games.
