Overall, since 1948/49, took part in 64 different teams in the championship, but it was only al Ahly Cairo and al Zamalek SC to participate in all championships.

Mode
The 22 teams were divided into two groups of eleven teams, the teams are a group meet once each other. The group winners and runners qualify for the Championship play-off, the teams in the stands ten and eleven from rising, the teams at the 9th rank take part in a relegation against relegation.
