22nd Berlin International Film Festival

The International Film Festival Berlin 1972 took place until July 4, 1972 by June 23.

Germany rejoiced this summer for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Munich. The International Forum of New Cinema seemed to establish itself. Nevertheless, the contrast between the gala performances of the competition and the discussion joyful events in the Forum was still immense. The film industry was in Berlin this year, a bigger platform with the International Trade Fair for Motion, telecommunications and audio-visual, which was held for the first time at the exhibition grounds at Berlin's radio tower.

The following films were shown at the Berlinale 1972 Competition:

International Jury

Eleanor Perry from the USA was Jury President this year. She got the following jury: Tinto Brass ( Italy), Julio Coll ( Spain), Francis Cosne (France ), Fritz Drobilitsch - Walden ( Austria ), Hans Hellmut Kirst ( Germany ), Herbert Obschernigkat ( Germany ) and Rita Tushingham ( United Kingdom ).

  • Silver Bears: The Hospital ( Special Jury Prize )
  • Jean -Pierre Blanc ( best director)
  • Peter Ustinov ( special prize for the originality of his artistic oeuvre
  • Elizabeth Taylor in Hammersmith is out ( Best Actress )
  • Alberto Sordi in custody ( Best Actor )
